Staying Classy
It’s easy to fall into lazy trends and let your living space turn into a space you aren’t comfortable showing other people. There are some simple rules to follow and things to avoid if you don’t want to fall into these traps.
Decide on a style
Never just pick up whatever you like at the moment. Find a style you like and stick to it. Too many styles of furniture and can look cluttered and clash with what you are trying to achieve. I understand that you like tour grandfather’s rocking chair but it doesn’t fit into your modern minimalist design. If you want to keep the chair then build around it.
Act like an adult
You are not going to win any hearts by having toys strewn all over your living room and cheap bunkbeds in your bedroom. If you have a child then make sure that their toys and furniture stay in their rooms or play areas. Bunk beds area great space saving solution but if you don’t need to clear up every extra square foot then get a classy bed with a real headboard and foot board.
Design in muted colors
I don’t mean that everything should be grey scale. Just avoid neon colors and bright pastels. Leave the 80s and the early 90s in the past. It’s time to move on and your design should reflect that. Off white fabrics and natural materials are great ways to do this. Hardwood furniture and wrought iron go well together and exude an aura of class, poise and strength that your guests will noticeably take in.
All in all it’s not that hard to make a classy design. Don’t get cluttered up, don’t fall prey to the material girl era color schemes and keep the bunk beds in the kid’s rooms.
